Ik ga op reis en neem mee... // I am going to travel, and I bring...

De grote verrassing… // Find the English version below

Ik ga de komende dagen Bangladesh en India bezoeken. De komende twee weken ben ik vrij van stage en deze weken ga ik gebruiken om rond te reizen. Niet echt rond reizen per se, maar je begrijpt wel wat ik bedoel.

Waarom?

In Bangladesh heb ik een vriend wonen waarmee ik samen heb gewerkt tijdens de World Jamboree in Japan. De kans om naar Nepal te gaan was al duidelijk. Omdat Bangladesh en Nepal erg dicht bij elkaar liggen, het is niet duur om Bangladesh vanuit Nepal te bezoeken. Dus, nu puntje bij paaltje komt, ga ik dus naar Bangladesh. Na Bangladesh zal ik doorreizen naar Hyderabad, India. Daar zal ik bij Stefan, een vriend van mij op dezelfde opleiding, blijven logeren. Hij zit daar namelijk voor zijn stage. Je vliegt voor onder de € 100 van Kathmandu naar een stad in India, dus een excuus om niet te gaan is niet snel te bedenken.

Voorbereiding

Wat neem je allemaal op zo’n reis? Eerst denk je aan je veiligheid en gezondheid. In India en Bangladesh loop je een kleine kans om malaria op te lopen. Dit kan je makkelijk voorkomen door lange kleren te dragen en anti-muggenspul te gebruiken. Daarnaast is vervuild drinkwater een risico. De vliegtuigmaatschappijen waarmee ik mee vlieg, vliegen beide op Europa. Het zijn geen kartonnen dozen die de lucht in worden geschoten.

Ik probeer zo min mogelijk mee te nemen. Het liefst reis ik alleen met handbagage. Dat scheelt je erg veel tijd. Bovenstaande foto’s laten zien wat ik mee wou nemen, VOORDAT ik kritisch ging kijken wat thuis kon blijven. Onderstaande foto laat zien, dat na kritisch selecteren, dat alles past in deze rugzak :). 6,5 Kilo, ow yeah.

Bangladesh

In Bangladesh verblijf ik in de hoofdstad, Dhaka. Bangladesh is een land dat niet erg veel bezocht wordt door toeristen in Azië. De overheid doet zijn best om toerisme aantrekkelijk te maken. Bijvoorbeeld, ik was erg onzeker of ik nou van te voren een toeristenvisum moest aanvragen. Het internet staat vol met tegenstrijdigheden, maar na navraag bij de ambassade kan je bij aankomst een visum krijgen. Het schijnt een heel mooi land te zijn, dus ik ben benieuwd.

India

India is in vergelijking met Bangladesh immens populair. Het is ook nog eens super groot. Ik zit voor zes dagen in de zuidelijke stad Hyderabad. Of ik veel natuur ga zien weet ik niet, maar ik ben zeker benieuwd hoe India en Nepal van elkaar verschillen. Het is in ieder geval warmer dan in Kakani, Nepal. Updates geven Ik ga proberen om in elk land een update te geven over deze blog met foto’s, afhankelijk van het internet. Ik heb er zin in.  

The big surprise…

I am going to Bangladesh and India for about two weeks. The next weeks I am off from my internship and I am going to visit some places. In this blog I will tell you why.

Why?

In Bangladesh I have a friend who I met during the World Jamboree in Japan. Back then, me going to Nepal was a semi-realistic scenario. Because of the favourable location between Nepal and Bangladesh, I promised to try and visit my friend. And now when push comes to shove, I am going. In India I have a friend I know from my studies, Stefan. He is currently there to conduct his internship. Flying from Nepal to a city in India is below € 100. So there is practically no excuse to not go.

Preparation

What do you bring on such a trip? Fist you think about your own safety and health. Both countries contain a risk of experiencing malaria. This is easy to prevent by wearing long sleeves and applying anti-mosquito salves. Furthermore, be wary with drinking water. Luckily, the airlines I am using both fly in Europe, so I can be assured that the planes are not made out of cardboard boxes.

I try to bring as little as possible on this trip. Preferably, I travel only with hand luggage. This saves you a lot of time on the airport. The pictures above show the stuff I want to bring BEFORE I was critical in my selection. The picture below shows that AFTER my sorting and selection, everything could fit in one bag :). 6.5 Kilo’s, oh yeah.

Bangladesh

I will stay in the capital of the country, Dhaka. Bangladesh is a country that is not that much visited by tourists. The government is trying hard to make it more attractive for tourists. As such, I was wondering whether I needed to apply for a tourist visa before coming to Bangladesh, or if I could do it on the airport. The internet has a lot of conflicting information. However, after finding some reliable sources and consulting the local embassy, I learned it is possible to apply for one at the airport.

India

Compared to Bangladesh, India is immensely popular for tourists. For six days, I will be staying in the southern city of Hyderabad. I wonder how much nature I will see, but I am looking forward to see the differences between Nepal and India. Updates I will try to provide an update with every country I visit. I do depend on stable internet, so I am not sure if I can make that promise with pictures. Anyway, I am looking forward to it.
